Lawley Bank

Lawley Bank, Telford, Shropshire .

Tribute to a brave man.

Recently erected at Lawley Bank in Telford was this simple plaque to a brave American pilot from WW2.

Second Lieutenant Clifford W Jenson

was a pilot with the United States Army Air Force, based at Atcham in Shropshire.

On June 20th 1944 his P47 Thunderbolt fighter developed a fault,

rather than bail out he stayed with the plane and

steered it away from a possible crash on a local school.

By staying with the aircraft he saved the lives of many children who were in the school at the time.

He tragically died in the crash.

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his

friends".
